Gattaran, Cagayan – Seven parked passenger tricycles were heavily damaged, and two tricycle drivers were injured after a pick-up truck crashed into them in Barangay Guising on January 6, 2026.

This is the first reported vehicular traffic accident in town this year that involved multiple vehicles.

According to a report from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Gattaran, the incident occurred in front of Don Mariano Marcos National High School in Barangay Guising.

The report stated that the truck was allegedly overtaking another vehicle when it suddenly lost control and collided with the tricycles parked along the side of the road.

The two victims sustained injuries to different parts of their bodies and were attended to by responders from MDRRMO Gattaran and Rescue 721 who arrived at the scene. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported. One of the victims, who sustained more serious injuries, was rushed to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC) for further treatment, while the other remained hospitalized locally.

Both individuals were tricycle drivers and residents of Barangay Guising and Barangay Sta. Maria, Gattaran.

Looking back, Gattaran experienced several serious road accidents in 2025.

In March, a local cyclist was fatally struck by a passenger van. In May, an elderly woman was killed after being pinned between vehicles in Barangay Nasipping. In December, a delivery truck lost control and plunged into a ravine near the Baggao–Gattaran boundary, leaving five people injured.
