PMA recognizes lifetime achievement awardees, outstanding cavaliers, pandemic heroes


Baguio City, Philippines – The Philippine Military Academy awarded on Saturday, February 18, the Lifetime Achievement Awardees, Cavalier Pandemic Heroes Awardees, and Cavalier Awardees for their exemplary performances.


The ceremony held alongside the alumni homecoming at the PMA Grandstand in Fort General Gregorio del Pilar, Baguio City was graced by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. who likewise officiated the oath-taking of the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association, Inc. (PMAAAI) Board of Directors and new officers.

Ret. Gen. Benjamin Defensor, Jr., Ret. LtGen. Jaime De Los Santos, and Gov. Amado Espino, Jr. were conferred Lifetime Achievement Awards in recognition of their more than 50 years of dedicated and unblemished service to the country characterized by their faithful adherence to the virtues of Courage, Integrity, and Loyalty. Their service, accordingly, established a reputation beyond reproach and is worthy of emulation bringing honor not only to themselves and their family but also, to their Alma Mater, the PMA, and the PMA Alumni Association Inc.


Meantime, 15 cavaliers (graduates) received the coveted Cavalier Award, the highest recognition given to a PMA alumnus or alumna with outstanding achievements in their respective fields.


Cavalier awardees for this year are Ret. PLtGen Ricardo De Leon, Ret. LTSG Walter Villagonzalo, Ret Col Ariel Querubin, Ret. LTC Demosthenes Doplayna, Ret. PLtGen Jose Chiquito Malayo, RADM Caesar Bernard Valencia, PMGen Eliseo Cruz, MGen Alex Rillera, BGen Consolito Yecla, CG Commo Tito Alvin Andal, Col Ann Marie Gerodiaz, Capt Emerson Oxales, LTC Marion Cayat, Maj James Anthony Montejo, and Cpt Mark Rolly Bacani.

Further, PMAAI gave recognition to the eight cavaliers for their contribution to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. They are Secretary Roy Cimatu, Senator Gregorio Honasan, Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Mayor Benjamin Magalong, Secretary Eduardo Año, Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr., Secretary Rolando Joselito Bautista, and CG VADM Rolando Lizor Punzalan, Jr.


Jubilarians this year are Class 1963 (Diamond), Class 1973 (Golden), and Class 1998 (Silver), according to PMA.


In his talk, Marcos guaranteed the government’s support to them for ‘a safer, more peaceful, more progressive Philippines.’


“Let that exemplary work be emulated and ignite a desire for service in our young cadets. Inspire them once more to become leaders of character. Stay true to the ideals and values such as integrity, service before self, and professionalism that you have gained from the academy that everyone should innately posses as public servants,” the Commander-in-Chief said.
