Remains of 24-yr.-old man abducted by NPA in Cagayan recovered

Updated: Sep 28, 2023

Cagayan, Philippines – A mother in Cagayan could only break down and grieve over his missing son who was already lifeless when he returned to her.

For two years, Yolanda Asuncion along with the authorities had been looking for his son, 24-year-old Mark Angelo, who was reportedly abducted by suspected members of the New People’s Army in Gonzaga, Cagayan on Aug. 21, 2021.

On Sept. 13, 2023, the search for the young man was concluded after the military and police were able to locate his remains through concerned citizens and former rebels, the 5th Infantry Battalion reported.

Mark Angelo’s decomposed body was exhumed by the authorities at Sitio Altas, Dungeg, Sta. Teresita.

“Bilang nanay po, nasasaktan dahil yun nga, bigla-bigla nawawala yung anak mo tapos mahanap siya yun na, ano[bangkay] na lang siya,” the grieving mother, Yolanda conveyed through Philippine Information Agency region 2.

Yolanda further condemned the atrocious acts of the NPA, stressing that what they are doing is inhumane just like what they did to her son.

“…sana lang po mag-isip po sila, yung mga ginagawa po kasi nila ay hindi naman po makatwiran, hindi na po yun kalugod-lugod po sa paningin ng Diyos dahil yun po gumagawa na nga po sila ng hindi na po katanggap-tanggap,” she emphasized.

The young man’s remains, meantime, were turned over to his family for a decent burial.
