Pudtol, Apayao – To hasten the recovery of parents whose livelihoods were severely impacted by Super Typhoon Egay, more or less P5 million in financial assistance was distributed on Friday, August 18, to their children who are about to enter their schools starting this month.

Senator Maria Imelda Josefa Remedios "Imee" Marcos led the distribution held at the EKB Gymnasium in Poblacion, Pudtol, and Apayao, benefiting 1,000 college students. Each is entitled to P5,000 cash aid.

Aware of the financial struggles of parents in sending their children to school as a result of the disaster, the senator came up with the distribution of the financial aid through her ‘Imeesolusyon, Makabasa Latta’ educational program.

In a statement, the lady senator praised how resilient the Yapayao youth were, as their willingness to study is still top of their priority list amid the challenges brought by the calamity.

She then urged the youth to persevere in their studies even with such setbacks and other difficulties which are yet to come and assured them of the support of the national government.

"Uray agbagyo, uray narigat ti panagbiag, makabasa latta, agturpos latta, we are behind you in every effort," conveyed the lady senator.

Meanwhile, apart from the financial assistance to students, the lawmaker pledged a separate fund that will be given to typhoon-devastated families in the province.

According to the report of the provincial government of Apayao, these would amount to P25 million, of which P15 million will benefit Apayaos through the cash-for-work scheme, while the remaining P10 million will be for an emergency fund.

With the help continuously provided by the presidential sister to the province, Governor Elias C. Bulut expressed his gratitude to the senator during his privilege speech.
