Suspects dump P7M marijuana in road culvert to dodge authorities

Rizal, Kalinga — The potential transport of around P7 million Marijuana was stopped after the traffickers abandoned the contraband in a road culvert along Sitio Anonang, Liwan West Wednesday afternoon to avoid getting caught.


Police Captain George Acob, Rizal police chief said that on July 14, operatives set-up a checkpoint and patrol in Rizal after they received an information that certain individuals were allegedly ferrying marijuana.


“Naka-receive kami ng information na meron pong magta-transport ng marijuana from Hiltop Barangay Agbannawag bound to Tuguegarao po,” he said.


During the operation, the operatives saw three suspicious sacks placed inside a culvert in Sitio Anonang. When it was checked, 53 suspected dried marijuana in packed as bricks and 24 in tubular were discovered.


Acob said that the illegal drugs were abandoned at the area because of a possibility the suspects might have sensed the police.

He added that there are cases wherein a cohort on a motorcycle usually goes first and once there is a checkpoint, they will go back and warn the vehicle ferrying the contrabands.


Meantime, the illegal weeds confiscated have a standard drug price of P7, 836,000. After on-site inventory, the pieces of evidence were brought to Rizal Police Station and they shall be subjected for examination at the Kalinga Crime Laboratory.
