Tabuk City, Kalinga─The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of this city is set to craft a resolution granting the request of the Dagupan Public Market Vendors Association for the city government to waive their rental fees during the first quarter of this year.

This is after the august body approved the report of the Committee on Trade and Industry presented by its Chairman Castor Cayaba during the regular session on May 12.

In a letter dated February 23, 2021, the Dagupan Public Market Vendors Association has requested for the SP to waive their rental fees from January to April 2021 due to financial distress brought about by the pandemic.

During a committee hearing on April 29, the vendors conveyed that their losses were not only due to the lockdowns in the public market, but they are also affected with the lockdowns imposed in the other barangays, that resulted to the decrease number of customers. Tabuk City had been under General Community Quarantine during the period.

Thus, the need for the local government to grant their request is vital to give them time to financially recuperate, for their business to survive.

Said request to waive rental fees which would also cover the vendors in the Tabuk gymnasium will be for a period of 4 months. This would translate to around PhP1, 775,248 or PhP448,812/month x4 months.

Once crafted and passed, said SP resolution will be reviewed and approved by the Executive Department of the City LGU.
