Tanudan goes house to house to vaccinate children against measles, polio

Updated: May 13, 2023

Tanudan, Kalinga – In an effort to immunize all children under 5 years old against measles-rubella and polio, health personnel in Tanudan go house to house until the end of May.

The Tanudan Local Government Unit through the Municipal Health Office(MHO) launched the month-long supplemental immunization dubbed as ‘Chikiting Ligtas 2023’ on May 08 at the Mabaca Municipal Sub-station.

The activity is part of the country’s goal to inoculate children ages 0-59 months against measles and polio which are said to be contagious and life-threatening.

Data provided by MHO Nurse Geraldine Wacdagan showed there are around 1,240 children in Tanudan who are target recipients of the measles-rubella and polio vaccines.

She relayed that as of 9:13 a.m. on May 12, there are 866 kids inoculated in the municipality. Of the figure, 406 received the measles-rubella vaccine while 460 got the oral polio.

While the parents whose kids are yet to get immunized are encouraged to proceed to their barangay health stations or to the Rural Health Unit, the health staff are also going house to house to make sure the target population will get the vaccine.

With the ongoing vaccination drive, Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag appealed to parents with children under five years old not to hesitate to have their kids immunized as this will be their protection against these vaccine-preventable diseases.

“We can ensure our children’s safety from polio, rubella, and measles by having them vaccinated against these diseases … Let me take this opportunity to solicit for you cooperation, especially the parents, to have your children be vaccinated,” he stated.
