Tanudan’s Robusta coffee secures second place in Regional Coffee Quality Competition

Tanudan, Kalinga – Tanudan’s Robusta coffee is set to receive a citation for being one of the standouts in the recently concluded Regional Coffee Quality Competition in Mountain Province.

On April 23 – 25, 2024, the Department of Agriculture, in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry and the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College, hosted the said competition which drew 22 entries for Arabica coffee and 8 for Robusta.

Among the participants in the Robusta category is the Tanudan Savings and Lending Cooperative (TASALECO) in Pangol, Tanudan.

After being subjected to grading, roasting, and cupping by certified quality coffee graders, TASALECO’s entry grabbed second place with its flavor notes of cinnamon, coco sugar, caramel, chocolate, anise, and tamarind.

The said cooperative in Tanudan, along with other winners in the Robusta and Arabica categories, will be formally recognized in an awarding ceremony slated for May 30 in Baguio City.

The other entry from Kalinga set to join TASALECO in the awarding ceremony is the Gawidan Malin-awaan Marketing Cooperative from Tabuk City after securing the third spot in the Robusta category. The group’s entry stood out with its distinctive blend described as featuring ‘nutty undertones and a medley of honey and mixed berries, cinnamon, and papaya’.
