Updated: Aug 4, 2023

Tinglayan, Kalinga – Persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Tinglayan showcased their skills and talents in various competitions held on Wednesday, August 2, in celebration of the 45th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week.

Carrying this year’s theme, “Persons with Disabilities Accessibility and Rights: Towards a Sustainable Future where No One is Left Behind", PWDs proved through the event that they can still perform like their able-bodied counterparts even in their current condition.

The celebration was supposed to be conducted last week but due to the inclement weather brought by Super Typhoon Egay, it was moved to said date.

With the supervision of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, PWDs showed off their singing prowess as well as their board game skills, which include chess and Sci-Damath.

Walter Bawalan was declared champion for the singing contest –solo category, while Remy To-oc and Daniel Bogga were second and third place, respectively.

For the duet category, representatives of Barangay Luplupa snatched first place, Old Tinglayan-second place and Dananao-third place.

Barangay Luplupa also dominated the chorus category, while Barangay Dananao ranked second.

For chess and Sci-Damath, Bobby Ayangwa won first place in both competitions. Lorenzo Banao came in second for Chess while Remy Bogga is of same rank in Sci-Damath, followed by Gannaban Lungao.

Municipal Executive Assistant Bartholome Aboli, representing Mayor Sacrament Gumilab, in a statement, assured the local government’s continued support of PWDs through its program ‘Fachang.’

Under the program, PWDs in Tinglayan municipality whose age range from one-month-old to 59 years old shall receive annual cash assistance of P6,000 from the municipal LGU or quarterly support of P1,500.

Based on the Municipal Social Welfare and Development data, there are 335 PWDs in the locality.
