Tinglayan, Kalinga – In recognition of senior citizens' contributions to the development of Tinglayan throughout the years, the local government unit of Tinglayan participated in the nationwide celebration of Elderly Filipino Week.

The event was held on Oct. 12, 2023, at the municipal gymnasium and was spearheaded by the municipal social welfare and development office.

Among the activities conducted include singing and dancing competitions. A photo booth was likewise put up at the event’s venue, allowing the elderlies to reminisce about the good old days by posing for some pictures with their friends and partners.

In the competitions held, elders from Mallango dominated the dance contest where they swayed with the rhythm of the famed Kalinga song ‘Binungor’ while Sumadel and Upper Bangad placed second and third, respectively.

In the singing competition, Poblacion and Upper Bangad tied for first place, while Sumadel and Dananao came in second and third place, respectively.

Winners received cash prizes from the local government unit, while non-winners were awarded consolation prizes.

Meanwhile, in his talk during the event, Mayor Sacrament Gumilab underscored that the event is just one of many programs by the local government manifesting their love and reverence for senior citizens.

With the legacies of the elderlies serving as the backbone in building Tinglayan to where it is now, he said the elderlies deserve some recognition.

Apart from the annual celebration of elderly week, the ‘Sayaaw san Chacha’ program was launched in the municipality last year, benefiting said sector, wherein they are receiving annual cash gifts that are delivered door-to-door by the LGU with representatives from the Municipal Health Office and the Municipal Social Welfare and Development.

Next year, a ‘pusipos’ or a grand birthday celebration for senior citizens in the municipality will be held.

“We will initiate to do your ragragsak nga imbes ta elderly month celebration ket agbalin tun "pusipos" yu nga aama mi ken iina mi tapnu isu aramiden tayo agaldaw ti agragsak ken aggangsa,” the local chief executive pledged.
