Tinglayan LGU employees donate blood for adequate blood supply in cases of emergencies

Updated: Oct 1, 2021

Tinglayan, Kalinga – Employees from the Local Government of Tinglayan headed by Mayor Sacrament Gumilab were the latest to volunteer in the continuous bloodletting activity of the municipality through the Municipal Health Office this Tuesday, September 28, 2021.

Tinglayan MHO had been campaigning for the barangays to conduct bloodletting as the LGU targets to collect blood from one percent of the total population of Tinglayan to ensure that enough blood supply is available during medical and emergency needs for its constituents.

MHO, according to Tinglayan Municipal Information Officer Larae Lactao, targets to have 137 people, 1% of the total population of the municipality to participate in the blood-letting activities.

During the activity, Lactao said that MHO personnel were able to collect 5,000 cc. from 10 LGU employees, which will be sent to the municipality’s community blood bank at the Kalinga Provincial Hospital.

She explained that only 10 were able to participate as some of them attended some activities of the LGU, which was done alongside the event.

One activity was the meeting facilitated by the Department of Trade and Industry-Kalinga regarding the appreciation course on Trade and Industry Laws (TILS) for LGUs which tackles consumer acts policy, price act, and consumer rights and responsibilities among others.

To date, 48 donors have already participated since the first blood-letting event on June 10.

In a statement, Municipal Health Officer Caren Liw-agan encouraged yTongrayans to participate in the activity as this will in turn be used by fellow yTongrayans who will be needing blood in the future.

"Kadagiti amin nga kakailiyan tayo ket ag-participate tayo kuma ti daytoy nga programa tapnu makatulong tayo met ti kakailyan nga agkasapulan," said Dr. Liw-agan.

As recalled, the health officer in a previous statement disclosed that Tinglayan’s blood supply is not enough, so they need to push for more bloodletting activity to guarantee the yTinglayan peoples’ free blood supply.

There are instances, she shared that people resort to asking for blood from private entities when there is a shortage at the community blood bank.

Meantime, to continue with the program, mobile blood donation has been scheduled for Bangad, Mallango, Sumadel and Bugnay and is set to be conducted this upcoming last quarter of 2021.
