Tinglayan, Kalinga – As they put their blood, sweat, and tears into their respective sports to bring glory to Tinglayan, athletes from the municipality were honored, along with coaches, in a special awarding ceremony held Monday, May 13.

The municipality sent off 29 young student-athletes to the biggest regional sporting event last March, and each of them represented Kalinga well by bringing out their best in their events.

While some failed to get medals, six of them were gold medalists, two were silver medalists, and nine of them hauled bronze medals.

In boxing, Jayden Bang-as, Ace Uriel Seneca and Lester Bang-as snatched gold medals, while in the Pencak Silat - Regu category, Meeca Balagso, Thealyn Seneca, and Angel Lumaton were all first placers.

Silver medalists, meanwhile, were Wyllowee Ampoc in Wushu Sanda and David Guyang in wrestling.

For the bronze medalists, they are Jea Ayangao and Karyl Domogan in Wushu Sanda; Angel Lumaton, Meeca Balagso, Merriam Bang-as and Kristoff Ocampo in Pencak Silat - Tanding category; and Lie-ann Wacnang, Adeline Banao and Edwin Salang-oy Jr. in wrestling.

Leading the awarding of certificates to the athletes and coaches were Municipal Administrator Ramon Dungoc, who represented Mayor Sacrament Gumilab, and SB Secretary Noel Macaiba.

The first placers in their respective fields, meantime, were presented each with a P2,000 cash incentive.

Mayor Gumilab, in a statement, urged the Sangguniang Bayan members to craft an ordinance recognizing Tinglayan athletes and providing them cash incentives to honor their feats, as well as motivating them to nurture their talent and promote sports excellence.

For the athletes, he commended them anew for bringing pride to the municipality while also extending his felicitation to their respective coaches.

“Again, congratulations athletes for raising the banner of Tinglayan and the province of Kalinga in the field of sports and to their coaches, I want to express my appreciation to you all for your hard work and dedication in shaping our champions,” he conveyed.
