Tinglayan schools join implementation of solid waste management thru ‘Search for Pumor-asan Academy”

Tinglayan, Kalinga – In support of the solid waste management efforts of Tinglayan LGU, under the administration of Mayor Sacrament Gumilab, schools will be joining in the fight against solid wastes through the search for ‘Pumor-asan Academy’.

The Search for ‘Pumor-Asan Academy’ was launched in 2022 that recognizes schools in the municipality for becoming a model of cleanliness.

These schools practice sustainable ways of managing solid waste.

In this contested activity, judges from various national line agencies based in the municipality will check the presence of supporting facilities for solid waste management, such as wash areas, sanitary toilets, and compost pits, among others.

They will also check student discipline on proper waste disposal and parent-teacher involvement in solid waste management.

Apart from health and sanitation, other aspects to be checked, according to Larae Lactao of the Municipal Information Office, include support in advancing social welfare, peace and order, disaster preparedness, tourism, and culture and the arts.

The evaluation team already finished assessing schools in those aspects in October this year.

Among the top 10 schools that passed the first assessment are Bangad Centro Elementary School, Luplupa Elementary School, Tulgao East Elementary School, Loccong Elementary School, Old Tinglayan Elementary School, Ambato Legleg Elementary School, Tinglayan Central School, Belong Elementary School, Mallango Elementary School, and Dananao Elementary School.

Final assessment shall be done, and the top 3 will be awarded during the coronation night of another much-awaited event, the finals of the “Search for Tongrayan Umunno-Unnoy Ambassador.”

They will be receiving awards in the form of projects benefiting schools and their students.

The local government, headed by Mayor Sacrament Gumilab, now considers the search a long-term commitment that has the potential to inspire students, even at a young age, to be mindful of how they treat the environment and not just a mere, one-time event.
