Tuguegarao City implements blended learning amidst high heat index

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – The scorching weather is definitely here, and it is being felt extremely in most areas in the country.

 

Among these places is the Tuguegarao City which experienced 40 degrees Celsius heat index, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

 

With the extreme heat that possesses great risk to people’s health, the Local School Board and Local Health Board in the city agreed to implement blended learning modality for basic education learners – from kindergarten to senior high school starting April 4 – May 6.


In her Facebook page, Mayor Maila Ting-Que announced that face-to-face classes shall be done from 7:00 – 11:00 a.m. from Mondays to Fridays. The rest of the session for the afternoon shall be done through modular or online learning modality.

 

While classes were made blended for a month, the mayor reminded that students are not allowed to go to recreational places during class hours and weekdays.

 

“STUDENTS SHALL NOT BE ALLOWED ENTRY TO THE MALLS and SIMILAR RECREATIONAL ESTABLISHMENTS during school hours and weekdays,” the mayor stressed.

 

Apart from the blended learning, the City Schools Division also adopted mitigating measures like proper hydration, wearing of light-colored clothing, and avoiding outdoor activities during the daytime. This is to ensure the well-being of the students and teachers amidst the high heat index.
