Who will be the first Mr. and Ms. DepEd Cordillera?


La Trinidad, Benguet – The first pair to reign as Mr. and Ms. Department of Education – Cordillera will be crowned on Friday, May 05, at the DepEd CAR covered court in Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet.


Now on its 35th founding anniversary celebration, the education department in the region launched the search “to safeguard Cordillera’s cultural expressions such as knowledge systems, dance, song, material culture and other aspects of their cultural heritage from threats of misuse and misinformation through pageantry.”

Also, the event aims “to educate for better protection of indigenous culture to avoid further disrespect of Cordilleran traditions, symbols, and garments since the key to keeping cultural heritage sustainable, resilient and accessible is through education; and intensify among DepEd personnel and learners cultural awareness, appreciation of their cultural identity and heritage and its importance to their lives.”


Candidates


Nine pairs of candidates from the Schools Division Offices (SDOs) and the Regional Office are vying for the coveted crown.

Among the contenders are: Almie Jane C. Paned and Kieth Van Rosedale P. Asencio representing SDO Abra; Leinster C. Denna and Mary Grace LLagas for SDO Apayao; Lesner Ngagan and Loudy Jane Feliciano for SDO Baguio; Gary B. Frondarina and Cherilyn Embes for SDO Benguet; and Delfin D. Allaga and Mayumi Ara B. Lunag for SDO Ifugao.


Meanwhile, Jeric Wacdagan and Maryjoy Anggaboy represent SDO Kalinga; Vincent Martinez and Daisy Mae Bucao for SDO Tabuk; Christopher Lao-e and Sheryll B. Cherwaken for SDO Mt. Province; and Nover Keithley Mente and Janelle Dogao for the Regional Office.
