Winners in Pasil anniversary and Salip Festival contests feted

Pasil, Kalinga – Grand winners of tournaments and other contested events were feted on Sunday afternoon, June 18, during the awarding ceremony that capped the 57th Pasil founding anniversary and 2023 “Salip” Festival celebration.


Sports (Pre-event)


Dasculam team and Layaoian Smashers of Barangay Malucsad dominated the pre-event tournaments. Dasculam scored 5-0 to win the basketball, while lady smashers recorded 10 wins with no loss in the volleyball match.


The sports games were held from June 11 to 16 at separate venues.


In recognition of their game-changing excellence, Chester Awel and Nicki Jules P. Agagon were recognized as Most Valuable Players for basketball and volleyball, respectively.


Barangay Balatoc came second in basketball, Cagaluan – third, and Guina-ang settled in fourth place. For volleyball, top placers were Guina-ang and Dangtalan followed by Pugong village.


Street dancing


Pasil National High School emerged as the winner in the street dancing competition, while Central Pasil NHS placed second.

Cultural Competition


Showcasing their heritage through their creative presentation, Dangtalan took the top spot in the cultural competition. The village was likewise awarded Best in Sound of the Gong.


Pugong came second with the Best in Stage Presentation award, then Guina-ang which was named Best in Ethnic Attire. Performers representing Malucsad were further cited as Best in Choreography.


All other participating barangays were given consolation prizes.


Indigenous Games


Men from Cagaluan proved their strength and dominance as they pulled the rope harder than the other teams thus, winning the tug of war followed by Balinciagao Sur and Guina-ang. For the women's division, Dangtalan, Balinciagao Sur, and Cagaluan took the first to third spots, respectively.


In arm wrestling or locally called “sangsanggol”, Cagaluan won the men's category, while Balinciagao Sur triumphed in the women's division. Colayo and Pugong placed second and third, respectively (men). Dalupa and Malucsad, on the other hand, were proclaimed second and third, respectively in the women category.


Cagaluan won by default in finger wrestling or “torsi” in the women's division, while Guina-ang, Dangtalan, and Magsilay were announced as the first to third winners, respectively in men's category.


Cagaluan also emerged victorious in the greased bamboo pole climbing. Magsilay, Balinciagao Sur, Galdang, Pugong, Malucsad, Balinciagao Norte, Bagtayan, Dalupa, Guinaang, Dangtalan, Ableg were given consolation prizes.


Meanwhile, Dalupa dominated the “Agtu’n Chi Banga” relay. Galdang came second, while Balinciagao Sur placed third.


In the “Salidsid” or courtship dance, performers from Guina-ang made it to first place, Dangtalan – second, while both Galdang and Pugong claimed third spot. Just like in other contested events, other villages who participated received consolations.

Vlogging contest


Shedding light on this year’s theme “Enhancing Tourism through Culture and Arts of Excellence for Global Competitiveness,” local vloggers creatively featured tourist destinations, traditions, and heritage.


Galdang’s vlog garnered the highest score from the criteria which include relevance to the theme (50%), originality and creativity (30%), technical quality (10%), and audience impact (10%). Dangtalan’s entry was proclaimed second followed by Walter Jensen’s of Magsilay village.


More than the prizes, the people of Pasil were glad to have given prominence to their rich cultural heritage as they commemorated the 57th year since the municipality’s creation through Republic Act 4741.
