yApayao cum laude is first PMA graduate of former NPA stronghold

Apayao, Philippines – A community once considered to be a rebel’s stronghold in Apayao has produced its first-ever Philippine Military Academy graduate.

CDT 1CL Jose Agpuldo of Marag Valley is part of the PMA MAndirigmang may DAngal SImbolo ng Galing at PagbangON (MADASIGON) Class 2023 who is set to graduate on Sunday, May 21.

Marag Valley used to be a New People’s Army-infested area back in the 1980s, according to the Apayao Provincial Information Office.

While the armed conflict slowed down the development of the community back then, Marag Valley has since coped, with progress keep pouring in the area at the present time.

Among the developments include the empowerment of its people; Agpuldo graduating from the premier military academy in the country is an example.

Said cadet also showed excellence in academics, graduating cum laude at the Apayao State College and passing the Licensure Examination for Teachers.

Apayao Governor Elias Bulut Jr., meantime, stressed the importance of investing in education and allowing the youth in Marag to develop with opportunities being created for them. The governor made this statement during his talk in Marag Valley on his birthday, May 15th.

Apart from Agpuldo, a daughter of a slain soldier from Apayao is also set to graduate from PMA. She’s CDT 1CL Fitzel Mae Leal who is from San Isidro Sur, Luna.
