TANUDAN, Kalinga — Qualified solo parents in Tanudan are set to receive a ₱1,000 monthly cash subsidy following the unanimous approval of a municipal measure institutionalizing the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act.

The Sangguniang Bayan, led by Vice Mayor Antonio Basungit Jr., approved the measure on third and final reading during its regular session on October 12 in Banagao, Poblacion.

The council opted for a ₱1,000 monthly subsidy instead of the proposed ₱500 and ₱700 incentives, recognizing the challenges and sacrifices of solo parents who shoulder the responsibilities of raising their children on their own.

Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag welcomed the approval, describing the subsidy as part of the municipal government's continuing commitment to supporting solo parents and their children.

“Uray man haan nga kasdiay kadakkel daytoy nga gatad ngem sapay kuma ta marikna yu iti agtultuloy nga supporta ken ayat iti municipal LGU tayo kadakayo. Ammu mi, ken makita mi iti rigat ken sakripisyo iti maysa a solo parent. Narigat nga agitaguyod iti anak, karkaru nu agmaymaysa ka, isu nga saludo kami unay kadagiti solo parents tayo,” Dagadag said.

“Although this amount may not be that big, we hope you will feel the continued support and care of our municipal government. We understand and recognize the hardships and sacrifices of being a solo parent. Raising children is difficult, especially when you are doing it alone, and we salute all our solo parents.”

Dagadag also assured solo parents that other benefits and programs mandated under the law would continue to be implemented. He said the local government would pursue additional initiatives to address the needs of solo parents and their children.

The approved measure aims to provide financial assistance to qualified solo parents while reinforcing the municipality's support for families facing the challenges of single-handedly raising children.
