TABUK CITY, Kalinga — Kalinga District Jail Warden JInsp. Rolando Diwas warned visitors against attempting to smuggle illegal drugs into the facility, saying jail personnel are trained to detect concealed contraband following two foiled attempts, including one involving suspected shabu hidden in a slipper.

Diwas issued the warning after two incidents on August 14 and October 17, since he assumed office in July 2026.

In the October 17 incident, visitors were flagged for allegedly attempting to bring suspected shabu into the jail concealed in one of their slippers. In the earlier incident on August 14, a visitor allegedly tried to sneak suspected shabu into the facility through a food package.

“ Ito ang palagi kong sinasabi sa publiko at yung pamilya ng mga nakapiit dito na PDL na kung kayo ay bibisita dito sa amin, talagang wag kayong magbalak na magdala ng illegal drugs kasi ang BJMP po ay highly trained na mag-conduct ng body search at alam namin kung saan nila nilalagay yung possible na droga at kayo ay mapapasubo at makukulong lang,” Diwas said.

He said jail personnel continue to enforce strict security measures, including inspections of visitors entering the facility and three types of Greyhound operations to detect and prevent prohibited items from entering or being concealed inside the jail.

Diwas stressed that attempts to bring illegal drugs and other prohibited materials into the facility would not be tolerated, as the jail continues efforts to maintain safety, order and security for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), personnel and visitors.
