1.4M Cordillerans to vote for Oct. 2023 barangay elections

Tabuk City, Kalinga – More than a million of registered Cordilleran voters will be casting their votes in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) this coming Monday, Oct. 30, 2023.

The data, as mentioned by PIA Cordillera, show there are 1,094,183 registered voters for the barangay level and 367,886 for the SK category.

These individuals will be choosing their barangay’s next set of leaders in 1,405 polling centers in the region.

In line with the upcoming village and youth polls, Cordillera Police Regional Director PBGen. David Peredo Jr. assured that the police, military, and other government agencies will work to ensure a peaceful, honest, and orderly election.

“Gagawin naming ‘yung duty namin ayon sa guidance at directives ng COMELEC, at susunod kami sa rules and regulation na sinusunod namin sa engagement. Papalakasin din namin ang coordination with other partner agencies dahil sa trabahong ito, hindi lang pulis and nagtratrabaho,” he was quoted saying.

Forty barangays in Abra, meantime, have been recommended under the yellow category or areas of election concern.

Starting today, Oct. 27, the police in the country are on full alert wherein 187,600 police officers have been deployed in different areas nationwide to ensure the safety of voters and prevent any untoward incidents. The figure is 82.28% of the police force in the Philippines.
