10 Kalinga centenarians received financial aid in 2021

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A total of 10 eligible centenarians in the province received financial aid from the Provincial Local Government Unit of Kalinga in 2021, an incentive given by the LGU to the elderly who have reached 100 years.

In their year-end report, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office of Kalinga, headed by Rosemaritez Oyawon, stated that P20,000 financial assistance was given to each beneficiary.

Data shows that of the 10 centenarians, 6 are from Tabuk City; 2 from Tanudan; and 1 each from Tinglayan and Pinukpuk.

It is expected that this year (2022) the cash incentive of 20,000 shall see an increase with the implementation of a proposed ordinance providing cash aid to centenarians in the province.

It can be recalled that on June 17, 2021, PSWDO Officer Oyawon and Beatrice Canao, the President of the Provincial Federation for Senior Citizen Association in the Philippines – Kalinga Chapter, defended before the members of Sangguniang Panlalawigan Kalinga the proposed localization of the Centenarian Act of 2016.

In the submitted proposal of the Provincial Federation of Senior Citizens Association, they asked for an increase of the cash gift to 30,000.

Board Member Frederick Pangsiw, meantime, sponsored the request and stated the cash incentive should be made P50,000 with funding from the Provincial Local Government Unit of Kalinga.
