135 individuals affected in Tabuk City flash flood

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Some 135 individuals or 41 families were affected by waist-deep flash flood in barangays New Tanglag and San Juan of Tabuk City, over the weekend, stated the June 18 situational report of the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Cordillera.

The flash flood, caused by heavy downpour, hit the said barangays on Sunday, July 17, 2022.

No casualty or damage to property was so far reported.

DSWD-Cordillera said blockage of the main drainage was seen as the main cause of the flooding in the areas as water flow got impeded.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection-Tabuk City, at least one family was rescued and brought to safer ground by authorities after being trapped by the flood at Isla Basao, San Juan.

Assistance to flood-affected individuals

Possible payout of cash assistance to the affected families is being prepared through Assistance in Crisis Situation (AICS) program of the department.

Food packs were likewise made available for the flood victims.

“Ang ahensiya ay nanatiling handa sa posibleng relief augmentation upang tugunan ang pangangailangan ng karagdagang tulong ng mga Local Government Units sa panahon ng kalamidad,” assured the regional DSWD office.

Authorities advised the community to be more vigilant, take extra precautions and secure their properties, especially with the increasing likelihood of floods and landslides during this rainy season.
