Tabuk City, Kalinga - Aside from being the “rice granary of the Cordillera”, Kalinga is also one of the major producers of corn in the region.

As cited by the Department of Agriculture - Cordillera, Kalinga is also part of the “Corn Corridor of the Cordilleras”, together with Mountain Province.

Thus, to further boost the production of corn in the province, the DA - Cordillera provided over P1.7 million agriculture assistance to the farmers.

The beneficiaries were members of the eighteen Farmer Cooperatives and Associations (FCAs) in the province. Various agricultural interventions were handed over by the agency to their respective organizations during the turn - over ceremony held in Tabuk City last week.

The aids given include water pumps, multi-cultivators, and power sprayers, among other farm equipment.

During said ceremony, DA-Cordillera Regional Technical Director for Operations Danilo Daguio reminded the mandate of the agency on food security and sufficiency, hence the interventions given likewise aims to ensure enough supply of food in the country.

He then encouraged the farmers to adopt the clustering and consolidation strategy to increase their overall productivity and income.

Governor James Edduba, meantime, expressed his gratitude to DA and the Provincial Agriculture Office for the support in Kalinga agricultural development.

“These machineries are not merely tools, they are symbols of empowerment, and resilience in the face of adversity. To all beneficiaries, I implore you to make the most of this machinery for all members of your FCAs, let them not gather dust in the storage but let them be put to work irrigating our fields, nurturing our crops, and enriching our livelihoods,” he said.
