San Pablo, Isabela - While some people can quickly accept the end of a relationship and move on, this may not be applicable to others.
Research showed that breakup is one of the leading causes of psychological distress and one of the major causes of suicide among young people worldwide. One of such case was recorded in San Pablo, Isabela, on Thursday, March 14, 2024.
The deceased, identified as "Allen”, 18, was a resident of Cabagan, Isabela, and a carpenter.
Police reports disclosed that Allen and his ex-girlfriend had broken up recently and decided to meet at a bridge in Barangay Calamagui, San Pablo, on that day to discuss about the matter.
When they were at the bridge, Allen was alleged to have forced her ex-girlfriend to get back with him, but the young woman refused.
The girl’s decision caused Allen to jump off the 20-meter-high bridge and fall into a rocky portion of the river, injuring him.
His ex-girlfriend promptly reported the incident to the authorities.
Notified of the incident, members of the MDRRMO, BFP, and PNP-San Pablo proceeded to the location and rushed the victim to a hospital immediately.
Despite several attempts to save his life, Allen was not able to survive the injuries he sustained from the fall.
