18-yr.old pregnant woman buried in Mankayan, Benguet landslide

Mankayan, Benguet - An 18-year-old pregnant woman died after she was buried by a landslide in Barangay Lower Lip-atan, Mankayan, Benguet, in the late afternoon of Wednesday, September 3.


Barangay Kagawad Andrew Paulino, in his statements during his interview with the DZWT 540 AM Radyo-Totoo, said the landslide occurred at around 4:50 a.m. in Sitio Ikondalit amid the heavy rainfall that day.

Investigations disclosed that the loosened soil from the upper slope in the area struck the house of Marison Lagadan and his wife, Ivy Khate Ogues Dizon, a native of Topdac, Atok, Benguet.


Rescue efforts were immediately carried out by family members, neighbors, and barangay officials led by Captain Roberto Bandao, as well as personnel for the BFP and PNP.


Ivy Khate was recovered at 5:25 p.m. and was rushed to the Lutheran Hospital aboard the municipal ambulance, but was declared dead on arrival, along with her unborn child.


The report added that the victim’s body is currently at the said hospital morgue while her family is preparing for her wake.


Cordillera suffered heavy rainfall past 3:00 pm on September 3, causing flooding and landslides in some areas.


In Tabuk City, Kalinga, a landslide also occurred in the afternoon in Brookside, Bulanao, where a 17-year-old student lost his life.
