2 Cagayan councilors and 2 others killed in an ambush

Cagayan, Philippines – Two councilors and two other individuals were killed in an ambush Monday morning, February 15 in Barangay Ignacio Jurado in Lasam.

According to the report of Cagayan Provincial Information Office, the victims were identified as Councilors Marjorie "Jaling" Salazar and Eduardo Asuten. Also killed in the ambush were Salazar’s driver identified as John Rey Apil, 24 and her secretary Aiza Manuel, 30.

In an initial investigation by the police, these four individuals were on board a Toyota Hiace van and at the place of the incident, two vehicles without plate number described as blue Hyundai Accent and and white Toyota Wigo fired at the victims’ car.

Victims were rushed to the hospital, but they unfortunately did not make it.

Hot pursuit and dragnet operations are now being conducted by the police for the arrest and identification of the suspects who rushed for their escape after the ambush.
