2 teens drown on Holy Wednesday in Cagayan River



Solana, Cagayan – Drowning incidents have tragically claimed the lives of seven individuals in Cagayan during the Holy Week.

 

Among these victims were two 14-year-old boys from Solana, Cagayan, who drowned while leisurely bathing at the Cagayan River in Purok 7, Natappian Solana, Cagayan, on Wednesday, March 27.

 

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. According to accounts from their companions, the two teenagers accidentally found themselves in the deep portion of the river, leading to the tragic event.


It was reported that neither of the victims knew how to swim. Sadly, their companions were unable to rescue them due to the suddenness of the incident.

 

On Maundy Thursday, March 28, members of the Philippine Coast Guard conducted a search, rescue, and retrieval operation, ultimately recovering the lifeless bodies of the victims.

 

The victims were identified as Aldrin Mabborang, a resident of Andarayan North, Solana, and David Miguel Caasi, a resident of Basi West, Solana. The PCG handed over their remains to their respective families on the same day.

 

In light of these incidents, the PCG advised residents to remain vigilant during swimming activities.

 

In addition to the two teenagers, other drowning victims included Elmer Villaspin of Tamban, Alcala; Rebecca De Leon of Baybayog, Alcala; a certain Jeorge Calixto from Abariongan Ruar, Santo Niño; and a 9-year-old boy from Simpatuyo, Santa Teresita, Cagayan.
