Cagayan, Philippines – A 20-year-old accused of raping his friend on his birthday was arrested by the authorities in Piat, Cagayan on Nov. 29, 2022, the Tuao police reported.
The suspect hidden under the false name of ‘Echo’ was said to have celebrated his birthday last year in the house of his brother in Tuao when the crime happened. Echo has a live-in partner and is a resident of Barangay Bagumbayan, Tuao.
Back then, the police said the suspect invited the minor victim to his birthday celebration around 4:00 p.m. Three hours later, the victim asked Echo to take her home but the latter continued drinking instead of granting the victim’s request.
The victim reiterated her wish to go home around 10:00 p.m. but Echo told her they are going to sleep at his brother’s house and he will bring her home the next morning.
The two slept in the living room and it was around 11:00 p.m. when the victim felt someone removing her lower garments.
The victim tried to fight him off and screamed for help however, the suspect covered her mouth and threatened her. The suspect then allegedly proceeded to rape the minor victim.
On July 21, 2022, the court issued the warrant of arrest for rape in relation to Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act against the suspect.
The said arrest warrant with no bail recommended was served by the authorities to the suspect on Nov. 29.
Echo, who was listed as Top 5 Most Wanted Person in Cagayan, was brought to the Tuao Police Station.
