Baguio City, Philippines - Miss Trancoville Janela Andal Recio won the title of Miss Baguio 2025 on Saturday, September 6, besting eleven other contestants in the city’s popular yearly pageant that celebrates beauty, culture, and community, during the Coronation Night held at the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center.

Janela, 20, an Information technology student of the University of the Cordilleras, was born in the United Arab Emirates and has been in the country for only two and a half years to attend the university. Then, she decided she would join the contest and later crowned Miss Baguio 2025.

Recio’s winning answer

“I was born ready!” - The young beauty started off confident and strong already as she walked on the stage for the question and answer portion.

THE QUESTION: “We often say that Baguio is a city that breathes, how do you think we, as citizens, keep Baguio live-able, sustainable, and beautiful for the next generation?”

Before the IT queen was stopped by the timer, she answered confidently expounding that as Baguio grows through Project Minerva, sustainable tourism and respect for heritage must be upheld and that the responsibility to promote the balance is embraced through using one’s voice.

“I believe that as Baguio City moves towards being a smart city with project Minerva, we should always focus on sustainable tourism. We should focus on respecting history while progressing to the future, because I believe that our nature—whatever we have here in Baguio City is what we have as people. It is one of our core values in Baguio City and we integrate nature so much with our ancestral lands; with our nature and whatever we have around our environment. And I believe, as a beauty queen and as a youth ambassadress, I would practice to use my voice.”

‘This crown is not mine alone’ - Recio

In her Facebook post, Janela expressed her gratitude to the Almighty and to all the people who supported her in her beauty pageant journeys.

“Joining Miss Baguio was a leap of faith — a spur-of-the-moment decision guided only by prayer. This journey was far from easy, but my heart remains faithful and overflowing with gratitude. This crown is not mine alone — it belongs to everyone who prayed with me, believed in me, and walked this path with me. Above all, it belongs to God, who turned my prayers into reality,” she wrote.

The newly crowned queen is set to represent the city in the prestigious Miss Universe Philippines in 2026.

Since 2022, Baguio beauties have been finishing strong in the competition. From Ghenesis Dalayday Latugat who managed to enter the top 10 in 2022; to Krishna Marie Gravidez, top 5 in 2023; to Justine Tarah Marie Valencia who finished 3rd- runner up in the competition last year; and just recently, Gwendoline Meliz Soriano finished strong as the lone Cordilleran candidate to break into the coveted top 12.
