22 FREE WIFI UNITS given to Tinglayan; residents now have faster internet connectivity

Tinglayan, Kalinga - iTinglayans now have better access to the internet, with free Wi-Fi units from the Department of Information and Technology-Cordillera. 

As reported by the Kalinga Public Information Office on June 10, the DICT-Cordillera has successfully installed 22 Starlink satellite units in twenty-two key locations in town. 

The units provided to the municipality are part of the 200 Starlink units installed by the agency across various areas in the province as of May 2025. 

Making the project possible is the Free Wi-Fi for All program of the national government, which supports the LUMIN-AWA Kalinga eight-point agenda of Governor James Edduba to improve digital access in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs) in the province. 

Tinglayan’s new Wi-Fi units were installed in important public spots like barangay halls, schools, municipal grounds, and rural health centers, among other areas in the municipality where internet connection is poor. 

Other beneficiaries of the 200 Starlink units include the municipality of Pinukpuk with 37 units installed, Tabuk City (28), Balbalan and Tanudan (26 each), pasil (24), Rizal (21), and Lubuagan ( 16).

In an interview with Guru Press Cordillera, Mayor Sacrament Gumilab expressed gratitude to the DICT-CAR and its partners, saying the Starlink units provided to the municipality are a big help for his constituents, especially the students, teachers, and the town officials, as they need fast internet in their daily routine. 

“Dakkel nga tulong daytoy karo dagitoy studyante tayo ket teach nga inaldaw kasapulan da ti internet nga napigsa tapno maaramid da ti school works da nga napaspas metlang. Uray metl ang kadakami nga agtatrabaho ditoy municipal hall tayo, ken dagijay sumarsaruno nga set of leaders tau, karo ditoy ili tau nga sulinek, ket kasapulan mi ti napigsa nga internet para ti inaldaw nga trabaho mi,” Gumilab relayed.
