23-yr.-old man charged for evading checkpoint, hitting police officer

Updated: Nov 10, 2023

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Evading a police checkpoint has cost a 23-year-old man in Tabuk City his freedom.

During the October 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections, checkpoints were established in strategic places in the city to ensure a peaceful and orderly barangay and youth polls.

On the evening of Oct. 29, while personnel of the Tabuk City Police Station were manning a checkpoint along the provincial road in Appas, they tried to flag down a fast approaching motorcycle.

Said vehicle, however, allegedly didn’t stop that it hit a police officer on his left foot.

This prompted authorities to chase the speeding motorcycle which headed towards Dagupan. The police caught up with the accused at the boundary of Appas and Magsaysay and nabbed him right there and then.

The arrested man was identified by the PNP Tabuk as Jetro Sta. Ines, a car wash attendant who is a native of Pangasinan but currently residing in the city.

Sta. Ines was charged with violation of Art. 151 of the Revised Penal Code and Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Physical Injuries.

The suspect is currently locked up at the Tabuk City Police Station.
