29 houses damaged, over 27,000 affected by ‘Crising’ and monsoon rains in Cordillera

Baguio City, Philippines - A total of 29 houses have been damaged and 27,756 individuals affected in Cordillera as the region continues to grapple with the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone ‘Crising, southwest monsoon, and the two lingering Low-Pressure Areas (LPA) - TD Dante and TD Emong.


Of the 29 damaged houses, 2 were totally destroyed, while 27 sustained partial damages, said the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) - Cordillera in its report as of 7 p.m. of Wednesday, July 23.


Baguio City recorded the highest number of wrecked homes with 14, including one totally damaged in Pinsao Proper; four partially damaged in Irisan; three in Slaughter House Area; two in Springhills, Apugan-Loakan; and one each in Camp 7, Dominican-Mirador, Honeymoon, and Pacdal.


In Mt. Province, 10 houses were reported partially damaged. Of which, five are in Tadian, three in Sabangan, and one each in Besao and Sagada. Three houses are also affected in Kapangan and Kibungan in Benguet, and another one in Sallapadan, Abra.


The other totally damaged house was in Dilag, Tabuk City, Kalinga.


While no casualties were reported, DSWD - Cordillera in its 4 p.m. situational report said 81 families or 324 individuals remain displaced, with 15 families or 60 individuals staying at evacuation centers. 66 families or 264 individuals are being assisted outside evacuation centers.


The combined weather disturbances further affected a total of 8,882 families or 27,756 individuals in the region. Majority of these are in Abra (8,255 families or 25,335 individuals), followed by Benguet (494 families or 1,935 persons), Baguio City (56 families or 233 persons), and Apayao (45 families or 128 persons).


Other affected families are in Mt. Province (23 families or 89 individuals), Ifugao (7 families or 25 individuals), and Kalinga (2 families or 11 individuals).


Responding swiftly with relief assistance and onsite visitations, DSWD - Cordillera has distributed P6.2 million worth of aid so far, while concerned LGUs provided P508,000.


Authorities urged the public to stay vigilant as the current inclement weather poses high risks of flooding and landslides.
