Santa Marcela, Apayao - As a testament to their superb public service delivery and leadership management, three barangays in Santa Marcela municipality were hailed national passers on Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangay(SGLGB), by the DILG on Thursday, May 9, 2024.

Said awardees, comprised of Barangay Imelda, Barangay Marcela, and Barangay Panay, were among the 12 barangays in Apayao that passed the assessment criteria in various governance areas, which include financial administration; social protection and sensitivity; disaster preparedness; health compliance and responsiveness; sustainable education; safety, peace and order; environmental management; youth development; tourism, heritage development, culture and arts; and business-friendliness and competitiveness.

Mayor Evelyn Martinez lauded this notable achievement of said barangays. She expressed that the recognition was an outcome of commitment and hard work, as well as a unified effort exemplified by officials serving in the barangays.

She encouraged other barangays to continuously progress and excel in SGLGB assessment standards this year, to have a spot for the next recognition.

The prestigious award was designed pursuant to Republic Act No. 11292 as an institutional recognition program of the DILG to encourage provincial, municipal and barangay government units to consistently and exceptionally perform relative to governance.

It was formed as performance standards centered on gauging outcome-oriented efforts aligned with the 2023-2028 Philippine Development Plan. It also provides an avenue for government agencies to support local development initiatives and reforms.

The awarding program will be disclosed by the DILG shortly.
