300 flood-hit families in Lubo, Tanudan receive rice assistance

Tanudan, Kalinga – Some 300 families from the three barangays of Lubo, Tanudan who were affected by flash floods and continuous downpours from October to November 2022 received rice assistance on November 11, 2022.

Earlier, three simultaneous typhoons hit Cordillera Administrative Region – Maymay, Neneng, and Paeng. The heavy rains brought about by the typhoons caused flash floods and landslides in Lubo.

John Ryan Awingan, Tanudan Information Officer, said that the typhoons left the people with no choice but to stay inside their houses.

Awingan added that the calamities also made the community's sources of drinking water unsafe. The Kalinga provincial government first distributed gallons of potable water to the households in Lubo.

The Information Officer relayed that in order to extend further assistance to the people in Lubo, Mayor Jaedicke Rhoss Dagadag through Jomar Durdal requested relief aid from House of Representatives Speaker Ferdinand Martin Gomez Romualdez, which the latter immediately granted.

Romualdez gave sacks of rice which were shipped from Manila on November 7. After coordination and arrangements with the barangay officials of Lubo, the sacks of rice were distributed to around 300 families this November 11.

In a statement, Mayor Dagadag conveyed that the limited funding of Tanudan LGU is not a hindrance in extending help to the constituents in the municipality who are in need of immediate aid. He added that a leader must always find means such as sourcing out assistance from other leaders in order to help the people.

“Kas ama iti maysa nga ili, nu makitam nga marigatan iti kakailyam dapat nga aramidan ta iti pamuspusan tapnu sumayaat iti kasasaad da uray kastoy nga limitado lang iti pondo tayo iti LGU,” he conveyed.

Dagadag likewise extended his profound appreciation to House of Representatives Speaker Romualdez for his immediate action on his request for relief assistance.
