31-yr.-old soldier from Mt. Province dies in Conner, Apayao road crash


Conner, Apayao - A 31-year-old soldier assigned in Kabugao, Apayao died Tuesday, March 12, following a road crash at Sitio Turayuk, Buluan, Conner, Apayao.


The body of the soldier is now up for proper disposition, Conner Police told GURU Press Cordillera on Thursday, March 14.


He was identified by police as Job Bayeng, a resident of Bontoc, Mt. Province, a member of the 98th Infantry Batallion of the Philippine Army.


Accordingly, at around 3 p.m. on March 12, Bayeng was traversing the uphill road of Sitio Buluan while heading back to their camp in Kabugao.


While doing so, he accidentally collided with an incoming vehicle, a mini dump truck, which went into his lane.


With the impact of the crash, Bayeng was thrown into the dump truck’s windshield, fatally injuring him.


He was taken promptly to the Tuao District Hospital but later transported to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival.


As to the driver of the dump truck, he was named by police as Homer Doroteo, 36, and a resident of Rizal, Kalinga.


He was with two other individuals onboard the truck when the accident transpired. Accordingly, they were heading to Tuao that day to deliver some 22 pigs.


They sustained injuries, but the driver, along with one of his passengers, already got out of the medical facility where they were brought.


As for the other passenger, he was transferred to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital for further medical assessment and care.
