4 police dogs in Cordillera honored


La Trinidad, Benguet – After their 6 to 8-year service in rescue and police operations in the Cordillera region, four retiring K-9 dogs were honored on November 17, 2022.


These 4 Belgian Malinois named Vilma, Nora, Jackson, and Joko received retirement honors at the Masigasig Grandstand, Camp Major Bado Dangwa in La Trinidad Benguet on the said date.


According to the Philippine National Police - Cordillera, Vilma, and Nora served as Explosive and Detection Dogs. Vilma had been in the police service for 8 years while Nora was in service for 7 years.


Among Vilma and Nora’s accomplishments was serving as a contingent during Pope Francis’ visit to the Philippines last 2015. Apart from securing special events in the Cordillera such as elections and festivals, these two were regularly deployed at the Baguio City night market to ensure that the people are safe from explosives.

As for Jackson, he was one of the Search and Rescue Dogs in the region for the past 6 years.


The highlight of his accomplishments includes locating the missing Korean national in Mt. Province last 2016. He also helped in retrieving 3 bodies who have been buried in a landslide during Typhoon Ompong in 2018. Lastly, he also helped in searching for the body of a missing old woman in Bokod, Benguet last 2018.


For Joko, a Narcotic Detection Dog for the past 6 years, he confirmed the presence of bricks of marijuana in three separate operations in Tublay, Kibungan, and Bakun in Benguet. The contrabands discovered from these operations have a total worth of P5.2 million.

During their retirement honor, these K-9 received Certificate of Recognition and treats from Police Regional Office Cordillera.


Likewise, Cordillera Police Deputy Regional Director for Administration, PCol. Patrick Joseph Allan awarded Medalya ng Kasanayan to Pat Rudenson Ayadi, Pat Jeffrey Evasco, PCpl Eric Accatan, and PSSg Scarlette Heather Hussain. They are the handlers of Vilma, Nora, Jackson, and Joko respectively.
