46-yr-old killed, 7-yr.-old injured in Baguio City pedestrian mishap

Baguio City, Philippines - A 46-year-old grandfather died while his 7-year-old grandson was injured after a speeding motorcycle hit them while they were crossing the road in Irisan, Baguio City, over the weekend.

 

The accident happened around 8:00 p.m. on May 18 along Quirino Highway, Purok 24, Irisan.

 

According to the Baguio City Police Station 9, the motorcycle rider attempted to overtake another vehicle and failed to notice the two crossing the road, eventually crashing into them.

 

Police Major Marcy Grace Marron, spokesperson of said police station, relayed in a phone interview that the victims are residents of San Carlos Heights, Irisan. Their identities were withheld by the officer.

 

The motorcycle rider, on the other hand, is a 38-year-old man from Labsan Street, Baguio City.

 

As a result of the crash, the man and his grandson both sustained severe injuries to various parts of their bodies.

 

They were rushed to the hospital by the rescue team, but the 46-year- old died the next day while under treatment. Fortunately, the 7-year-old boy survived the accident and is currently recuperating at the hospital.

 

The suspect was charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and serious physical injuries.
