5-year-old boy becomes Tabuk City’s first drowning victim this year

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A five-year-old boy became the subject of an overnight search and rescue operation in Barangay Bulo after he was reported to have drowned on Monday afternoon, March 16, 2026.  

 

It was around 5:50 p.m. when the Bureau of Fire Protection Tabuk City, headed by FSInsp. Gilbert Ngaya-an, received a report of a drowning incident along the irrigation canal in Turod, Bulo. The agency, who also alerted and coordinated with other rescue teams, immediately proceeded to the area.

 

The search and rescue teams along with community volunteers looked for the body until 7:20 a.m. on March 17 when a local resident discovered the boy in Sitio Bunao, Sotto, Bulo.

 

Authorities rushed the 5-year-old to the Kalinga Gabriela Mija Kim Medical Center in Agbannawag where he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

 

According to the BFP Tabuk City, this is the first documented drowning incident in the city for the year 2026.
