6 remote barangays in Mt. Province benefit from DICT’s free Wi-Fi

Updated: Feb 1

Bontoc, Mt. Province - Residents of six remote barangays in Mt. Province will soon benefit from free Wi-Fi provided by the Department of Information and Communications Technology - Cordillera on January 24, 2024.

This project, as cited by the Philippine Information Agency - Cordillera, falls under the DICT’s Free Wi-Fi for All Program, aiming to provide internet services to residents living in areas with poor internet connections.

The program will benefit residents of Barangay Saclit in Sadanga; Saliok in Natonin; Laylaya in Besao; Bunot in Paracelis; Lingoy in Barlig, and Capinitan in Sabangan.

DICT - Cordillera Regional Director Reynaldo Sy and Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr. led the turnover of Starlink satellites to the beneficiaries on the said day.

Lacwasan thanked the agency for the project and for selecting some barangays in Mt. Province as beneficiaries.

“Thank you so much, DICT, for granting this project. This is a tremendous help for us in the mountains, especially for the municipalities that have limited access to Wi-Fi. We hope to maximize the benefits and minimize the challenges,” he said.

Regional Director Reynaldo Sy, meanwhile, urged the officials of the six barangays to ensure that the internet service is open and accessible to the public.

“We kindly request our beneficiaries, especially the barangays, to make internet service available to the public and inform everyone in your community that there is internet access in your barangay,” he said.
