Banaue, Ifugao - A 63-year-old woman in Banaue, Ifugao, died after she was buried alive by a landslide while visiting her rice field last week.

The woman was identified by the police as Agnes Dominong, a resident of Barangay Bocos, Banaue.

Police reports obtained by a local media outlet narrated that Agnes was seen visiting her rice field in Sitio Char-o, Barangay Poitanon, on June 27. Since that day, she had not returned home, prompting her family to look for her.

The following morning, June 28, Agnes's pair of boots was found stuck in the mud by her child. The discovery led the family to coordinate with the barangay officials, who reported the matter to the authorities.

A search and retrieval operation was conducted immediately by the barangay officials of Bocos, PNP Banaue, MDRRMO, BFP, and concerned citizens.

After more than an hour of digging, the lifeless body of Agnes was found at around 10:55 a.m. on June 28, buried by the landslide where her boots were found.

Following the incident, Banaue police remind the public to avoid going to landslide-prone areas, especially during long periods of rain, to prevent such incidents from happening.

The said police station also reported a total of seven landslide incidents in town from June 27 to July 1, including the one that killed Agnes. All the incidents were caused by the continuous heavy rains brought by Habagat.
