71 new cases of Delta variant recorded in Cordillera


Tabuk City, Kalinga – Additional 71 cases of the more infectious Delta COVID-19 variant were recorded in the Cordillera Region on Monday, October 18, 2021, according to Sagada Public Information Office (PIO).


As per advance information forwarded to our MHO, of the 73 additional reports of Variants of Concern in CAR, 71 tested positive for the Delta Variant, 10 of which are recorded in Mountain Province…’ the PIO Sagada reports.

The PIO added that ‘57 were tagged as recovered as per time-based recovery period while 13 are still active and three have died per records of the regional database.’


Of the new cases recorded, Mountain Province, the Cordillera Region’s last province to record COVID-Delta variant case, has listed 10 new cases of the variant.


The 10 cases in Mt. Province, PIO Sagada informed, include 3 from Barlig, 2 from Bauko, 1 from Bontoc, 2 from Tadian, 1 from Sabangan and 1 from Sagada.


Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan has previously confirmed on October 7, 2021, that the first case of the said variant came from the municipality of Paracelis, which is the first town of the province accessed through the Isabela route.

As for new cases in other provinces, no report was yet made by the Department of Health-Cordillera through their social media account.


Meantime, as reported by Sagada PIO, Sagada's first Delta Case is a 23-year-old male from Patay, Sagada and has already recovered on September 19, 2021.


As of October 17, 2021, active COVID-19 cases in the region are 10,042.
