78-year-old man hammered to death in Tuguegarao



Tuguegarao, Cagayan – Police arrested a 25-year-old vendor who is now in police custody after allegedly killing a 78-year-old man using a hammer in Caritan Centro, Tuguegarao on Wednesday, November 23.


The suspect was identified as ‘Alyas Alan’ while the victim was named as Bruno Lopez Calucag. Both are residents of Caritan Centro.


Tuguegarao police were notified by the suspect’s relative at 9 p.m. of said date regarding a ‘brawling incident’ in said area.


When they responded, they discovered the body of Calucag sprawled on the floor, covered with his own blood.

They immediately notified Rescue 111 of LGU Tuguegarao to ferry the victim to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center but was declared dead upon arrival.


In their investigation, the suspect’s relative told police he heard a commotion and barking of dogs that night, which made him get up from bed to check what was happening outside.


To his surprise, he saw the suspect running towards him and that it had bloodstains on his clothes and body. As soon as the suspect approached the witness, he told police he was threatened by him not to interfere.


After the suspect left the area, the witness immediately called his father and went to check the victim’s condition.


There, they saw the victim bathing in his own blood.


SOCO investigation revealed the suspect hammered the victim several times, resulting in his immediate death. A follow-up operation resulted in the arrest of the suspect.


Police are still investigating the motive of the crime.
