La Trinidad, Benguet – A local transport project in La Trinidad is finally set to hit the road, with 80 gray-colored taxis—Hyundai Stargazer models—approved under a phased rollout. The units are expected to begin servicing commuters in the municipality this October. These taxis are strictly prohibited from operating in Baguio City, highlighting the ongoing regulatory boundaries between the two localities.

According to Sandy Sanoy, a member of the Board of Directors of a transport cooperative—whose name is being withheld by local media—46 taxi units are included in Phase 1, while 34 more units will follow in Phase 2. The taxis will be painted gray, as the use of white was prohibited under a resolution signed by the group.

La Trinidad Mayor Romeo K. Salda explained that the local government’s endorsement is only part of the requirements for the cooperative’s Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) application with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

He added that the proposed route excludes Baguio City to avoid conflicts with Baguio-based taxi operators and noted that only seven taxi units are currently registered in La Trinidad.

First introduced in 2017, the initiative is now in its final stages, with vehicle sealing expected to conclude soon and a formal launch scheduled to present the taxis to the public before their official deployment.

The new taxi units are expected to help ease traffic by reducing the number of illegal garages in La Trinidad. While they are not allowed to pick up or drop off passengers in Baguio City, they may pass through it when traveling to areas such as Tuba, Itogon, and other parts of Benguet.

Meanwhile, the Hyundai Stargazer features a sleek, futuristic design with a one-curve silhouette that enhances aerodynamics and cabin height. Its class-leading wheelbase offers spacious seating for seven adults, with flexible configurations that provide both comfort and versatility.
