Tabuk City, Kalinga – 605 individuals of the 850 beneficiaries in Kalinga received their wages at the Provincial Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, while the remaining 245 recipients are scheduled to receive theirs this January 12-13, 2021.

The cash for work aid to affected workers by the pandemic is made possible thru the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program of the Department of Labor and Employment.

A total of P3, 325,000 of aid was granted to Kalinga for the project. P1,050,000 came from the special project fund of Senator Imee Marcos, while P2,275,000 came from the office of Senator Joel Villanueva.

The 200 individuals who spent 15 days in the emergency employment program of the Department of Labor and Employment get P5,250, while the 650 who worked for 10 days deployed in various areas in the province get P3,500 each.

Screening of beneficiaries

In an interview, Provincial Human Resource Management Officer Grace Flores said that their office in coordination with DOLE-Kalinga was the one who assessed the credentials of the applicants and screened them based on the guidelines of the program.

Those qualified are individuals in the informal sector ages 21-59 whose jobs were greatly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Most beneficiaries were tasked to do four-hour community work per day, which includes cleaning roads or helping in some community work in their respective barangays and collecting plastic wastes which will be recycled into plastic chairs.

“Ang ibinigay sa kanila na trabaho ay maglinis sa kalsada or sa respective barangays nila, tapos yung mag-gather sila ng mga plastic wastes para gawing upuan para makatulong din sa environment, yun yung maganda sa project na ito. Aside from makakatulong sa kanila, nakakatulong din para sa community and the environment,” DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program Focal Person Lourdes Canseco said in a previous interview by GURU Press Cordillera.

Meantime, during the first day of pay-out, officials present include DOLE Regional Director Nathaniel Lacambra, Provincial Governor Ferdinand B. Tubban, and Provincial DOLE Director Avelina Manganip.

As informed by PHRM Officer Flores, other DOLE-TUPAD programs are set to be implemented this 2022 to give aid to yKalingas in need and if funds will be made available, filing of application will be announced.
