993 individuals affected by typhoon Karding in CAR receive DSWD aid


Baguio City, Philippines –Department of Social Welfare and Development in Cordillera has distributed assistance and provided services to some 993 individuals who were affected by Super Typhoon “Karding” in the region.


Typhoon "Karding" knocked-down trees and flooded low-lying areas in several municipalities as it swept across Luzon on Sunday and Monday.


As of 12 midnight of September 27, the regional field office of DSWD-CAR said 190 individuals or 61 families were displaced and were sheltered inside evacuation centers, while some are staying with their relatives or friends.

Three houses were reported partially damaged while one was totally wrecked.


No fatality was recorded in Cordillera.


360 of those who suffered from the typhoon are in Abra; 279 in Benguet; 180 in Kalinga; and 174 in Mountain Province.


The data may increase as reports from provincial offices of affected areas are still being consolidated and validated.

Some 110 family food packs (FFPs) amounting to P74,580 were already provided to typhoon victims in Abra province, while some 50 FFPs costing P24,250 were given to those in Benguet.


Provision of aid to other individuals is underway, according to the department, adding that DSWD-CAR pre-positioned food packs in local government units to prepare for calamities and disasters.
