Abra, Philippines – The powerful kicks, strikes, and defensive blocks of a Cordillera police officer overpowered thousands of first responders around the globe in the 2025 World Police and Fire Games in the United States of America, earning him a gold medal.

From June 27 – July 6, Birmingham, Alabama hosted this year’s World Police and Fire Games, an Olympic-style competition that gathered over 8,000 law enforcers, firefighters, and officers from corrections, probation, border protection, immigration, and customs from 70 countries worldwide.

The event had the participants compete in at least 60 sports, with at least 1,600 medals to be won.

Among the athletes who competed in the event was PEMS Jose Mar Bersalona of the Abra Police Provincial Office(PPO). He represented the country in Taekwondo, playing in the 40- to 50-year-old age group under 80 kg weight division where he took home the gold medal.

“I am humbled and honored to represent the PNP in the BMH 2025 World Police and Fire Games,” Bersalona wrote.

The Abra PPO, meantime, took pride of the feat of their personnel and commended his dedication and sportsmanship.

“Your exceptional achievement stands as a shining example of the strength, discipline, and unwavering commitment to service that define the men and women of the Philippine National Police. We salute your dedication and commendable sportsmanship!,” they expressed.
