Abra farmer groups granted P8.2M machineries to boost production

Abra, Philippines – Different organizations and cooperatives of rice and corn farmers in Abra received machineries amounting to P8, 216,832 from the Department of Agriculture – Cordillera.


The machineries were turned over on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at the compound of Abra Vegetable Seed Growers Multipurpose Cooperative in Pidigin.


DA-Cordillera, in a press release, disclosed that among the machineries given were two units of rice processing center worth P2.4 million, 14 units of pump and engine sets amounting to P1.064 million, four units of four-wheel drive tractors with combined amount of P3.9 million, three units hand tractor costing P524, 832, and eight units of seed spreader with a total amount of P328, 000.

According to Supervising Agriculturist Marlyn Tejero of DA-CAR, the farm machineries will be used by the groups to boost agricultural production and competitiveness. The machines, she stressed, should not be utilized for individual purposes.


President of Sunrise Producers Association Violeta Barila expressed gratitude to the department. Barilla confessed that it took a lot of sacrifices before the association was finally granted with four-wheel drive tractor.


The mechanization is expected to increase the efficiency and speed of farming operations.
