Abra places third in National Parol-Making Contest

Abra, Philippines – Out of 81 participating provinces, Abra was adjudged the third placer in the national parol-making competition, dubbed as “Isang Bituin, Isang Mithiin".


The contest was spearheaded by the Office of the President, in collaboration with the Department of Interior and Local Government.


The awarding was held simultaneous with the traditional Christmas tree lighting ceremony on December 3, 2022, at the Kalayaan Grounds in Malacañang Palace.

Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. personally conferred the award to Abra Vice-Governor Joy Bernos during the event.


The province shall receive a cash prize amounting to P50,000.


South Cotabato snatched the top prize with a corresponding P100,000 prize while Ilocos Norte grabbed the second place with a P75,000 incentive.


Abra’s parol


“Ti parol ket naaramid manipud kadagiti produkto ti probinsiya kas iti kattukong, abel, kawayan, ken mais,” Abra LGU stated.


The parol, they added, signifies the ‘Bayanihan’ culture of the Filipino people as they leap forward to recovery and development.
