Benguet, Philippines – Opting for a simple celebration for its 2021 Adivay Festival and 121st founding, this province pushes through with its festival with a kick-off ceremony held on Monday, November 8, 2021, at the Benguet Capitol.

Adivay Festival is an agro-tourism-focused celebration participated by the 13 municipalities of Benguet, usually celebrated in the month of November.

Governor Melchor Diclas and Vice Governor Johny Waguis led the event, limiting the participants to the employees of the provincial government in compliance with the health protocols and restrictions brought by the pandemic.

In their messages, Governor Diclas and other officials focused on recognizing the resiliency of the Benguet people amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Observation of the Adivay Fest for this year revolves around the theme, 'Resilient and Healthier Benguet-Flourishing in the Midst of Adversity'.

Diclas said that celebrations in the past were merrier with the participation of the province’s constituents. But this year, they have to adhere to the health and safety protocols, which involve the removal of several festival activities to prevent crowding.

Among those cancelled as Governor Diclas previously announced are parades, the setting up of tents by municipalities, and the Search for Mister and Miss Benguet.

Aside from this, the simultaneous butchering of pigs at the Wangal Sports Center by each of the municipalities of the province was also canceled, but the “Cañao” ritual shall push through at the Wangal Sports Gymnasium on November 23.

Cañao involves the sacrificing of animals, feasting, and dancing by Benguet natives for thanksgiving, healing rites, entertainment, or for asking for a bountiful harvest.

Also, the province will push through with the skills competition, battle of the bands, sports events, and the vaccination caravan.

A five-day agricultural fair by the provincial agriculture office at the Benguet Sports Complex is also expected to happen.
