Ambuklao dam to open boating as tourist attraction

Benguet, Philippines – The Municipality of Bokod, Benguet mentioned a plan to open a boating activity in Ambuklao dam as part of its tourist attractions, the Mt. Province Broadcasting Corporation –MPBC reported on March 15, 2022.


According to Efren Balagsa, Tourism Operation Officer, the Ambuklao dam has potential to be a boating area which could serve as an income generating activity for the villagers.

Balagsa added that since the Tilapia festival was celebrated on March 14, 2022 in Barangay Ambuklao, they thought of adding more events to the festival in which boating and fishing activities were considered.


“One thing that we also want to introduce is diyay fishing activities tapno ma-enjoy met dagidiay bisita a mapan idiay nga ag-view idiay site, at least adda kuma met ti i-provide dagiti fish cages nga agbingwit ti tilapia tapno at least ma-enjoy da met dagiti activities. So far, aside from boating while going around the dam ta medyo nalawa met, mapan da idiay siruk ti yangyang ken liboong,” Balagsa said.

Boating and fishing activities, Balagsa disclosed, were suggested by the side trip tourists visiting other tourist spots such as Mount Pulag and Mount Purgatory.

“Adu ti agsa-side trip magapo idjay Mt. Pulag, Mt. Purgatory ta kuna da piman nga anya ti makita idiay, ag-picture lang. Isu nayunan mi ti activities tapno adda ngay ti papanan piman ti oras da nga adda idiay, apan da ag-bangka at the same time ag-pasyar ken ag-picture,” he added.

The Tourism Operation Officer said that they will help to draft project proposals for livelihood and that they are coordinating with the approval of SN Aboitiz.

Aside from boating and fishing activities, Balagsa said that the upper stream of Ambuklao Dam is good for picnics and camping.
